Winfried Wiegmann
Winfried Wiegmann, 78, died March 12, 2018 at his home in East York. He was the blessed husband of Nancy McBain Wiegmann and they had shared seven wonderful years of marriage.
He was born in Bochum, Germany on January 16, 1940, where he grew up an avid soccer fan. He studied engineering and was employed by Voith International. He was transferred to America in 1976 to sell and trouble-shoot large turbine engines nationwide for companies like General Electric. He retired as vice-president of sales from Voith Turbo in York in 2005. As a youth he learned to sail in Holland, and here he continued his love of sailing in Long Island Sound and the Chesapeake Bay. He was a member of the Maryland Yacht Club for over 24 years and served on their Board of Governors. He attended the First Presbyterian Church of York and enjoyed discussing history and religious topics with members.
He is survived by his son, Michael Wiegmann of Dallas, TX; stepson, Michael McBain of Baltimore; stepson, Ryan McBain, his wife, Christa and granddaughter, Harper of Houston, TX. In Germany he leaves his siblings and their spouses, Erika and Horst Antoniazzi, Ruth and Bernd Wiegmann, Doris and Hubert Stoecker, and Barbel and Dieter Krueger; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Cancer Care Associates of York and Hospice and Community Care for their compassion and the quality of life they provided Winfried and his family during his illness.
A celebration of life will be held in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church of York, 225 E. Market St., York, on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Kyle Gott officiating. Guests will be greeted at a reception at the church following the service.
