Obituary for
Barbara Ann Heilig Smith
Barbara Ann (Heilig) Smith, 80, entered into rest on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at her residence.
She was the wife of Monte N. Smith. The couple was united in marriage on May 17, 1959, sharing 58 years together.
Barbara was born in York on December 5, 1937, daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Pearl (Stroman) Heilig.
She was a Bank Teller at Commonwealth Bank. She received an Associate’s Degree from Stephens College. Barbara enjoyed playing piano as a hobby and also taught lessons. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the DAR Chapter. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and also enjoyed researching genealogy and reading.
In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by a son, Stephen D. Smith and his wife, Sylvia K. of York; daughter, Deborah A. Rufo and her husband, Robert C. of York; 5 grandchildren, Chad Benjamin Smith and his wife, Kristin of Baltimore, MD, Christopher Ryan Smith and his wife, Jennifer of Mount Wolf, Tyler James Smith of York, Michael Anthony Rufo of York, and Kaitlin Elizabeth Rufo of York; great granddaughter, Aubrey Nicole Smith; and a sister, Mary Alice Heilig. She was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin F. Heilig III and a granddaughter, Stephanie Nicole Smith.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 1:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 25 West Springettsbury Avenue, York with the Rev. Stanley D. Reep officiating.
