Jasmine Capri McCarter went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the age of 23, but her endearing, angelic, pure in heart persona, and trademark stubbornness will not be forgotten. She was born on December 5, 1993, in York, Pennsylvania. She was the middle child of James McCarter and Christina Ruth. Affectionately known as “Jazzy Wazzy,” “Sweet Cheeks” and Sassy Jassy” by her family and friends, Jasmine was a proud 2011 graduate of York County School of Technology, playing for Spartan Varsity Volleyball. Her overhand serve, powerful blocks and wrist-snapping hits were a force to be reckoned.

Jasmine attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, receiving her bachelor's, and remained a cherished Crimson Hawk to receive her Master's degree in Human Resource Management, graduating in 2016. While at IUP, she sang with their Joyful Noise Choir which complimented her beautiful, soprano range. Accruing experience to land her the ideal HR position, she maintained employment at Frito-Lay, and prior to that, she enjoyed teaching at the Crispus Attucks. She loved teaching so much that she was contemplating returning to college to attain a master's in education.

Friends and co-workers will recognize her best as the always smiling splendor full of charm and positive energy. Her siblings and cousins will say she is the uplifting role model that kept the family grounded, and them level-headed with her words of wisdom and caring advice, and family will say she was their heart, and the epitome of goodness, integrity, honor, and compassion. Her community knew her as a kind and mild-mannered, beautiful young woman, an educator and teacher at heart, a mentor and advocate for youth.

Jasmine always told you the truth, even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. She was generous to a fault, and yet she sugar-coated absolutely nothing. To quote Winston Churchill: "She was a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma." Jasmine's greatest joy came from impacting the lives of children who needed someone to stand in their corner and whisper, "you can do this" when others told them otherwise. She possessed an over-abundance of charisma, spunk and feistiness, and to many, she served as a model of strong will and sheer determination. Being highly goal-oriented and a meticulous planner was her nature. She had a gift for putting others at ease; providing a sense of humor, peace and tranquility at just the right time. And her smile was contagious and comforting.

Jasmine loved God and devoted time to practice her faith and read the Bible for continual spiritual growth and guidance. Unquestionably, Jasmine's real and abiding passions were her family and friends and beautiful Christian values. Jasmine was indeed a God-fearing woman of faith and found her deepest joy and solitude in walking a righteous, virtuous path with Jesus. Her fun, quirky personality would quickly draw you in and made her a joy to be around, and as a homebody she loved to sing and dance in her home with her cousin cheering her. Her love for animals, especially dogs, was immeasurable. Her generous, caring nature defined her and she sought to instill in others a zest for life, a commitment to family and friends, and the power of a smile.

Jasmine is sorely missed by her beloved York family that includes her role model, her supportive mother, Christina Ruth, her caring father, James McCarter, and her admirable stepfather, Daniel Ruth; sisters, Brianna, JaMeisha and Dalana, brother, Jeremiah, maternal grandparents, Pedro and Cheryl Iturmendi; paternal grandmother, Beatrice Anderson, and stepgrandfather, Jack Ruth; aunts and uncles, Colleen Snyder and Michael Harris, Kenneth and Jennifer Iturmendi Murray, Daphne Iturmendi and Jamie Roach, John and Frances Davenport, Alan and Joy Ruth Pearson, and Hope Ruth; niece, Jaz'Mya Generett; cousins, Camille Sipe, Shampaigne Murray, Jayden Iturmendi Roach, Jasmine Casanas-Spells, Destiny Ritter, whom also was her bestie and roommate, and Michael, Madison and MacKenzie Harris; best friend, Bria Horton, and her Yorkie, Brownie.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene, 400 Stillmeadow Lane, York, PA 17404. A visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

She would want anyone reading these words to do your best, follow your arrow, and make something amazing out of your life. Oh, and never stop smiling. In lieu of of cards/flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Crispus Attucks, where Jasmine enjoyed countless hours helping to develop young minds. Undoubtedly, her absence will ache in the hearts of all who have been touched by her presence. But don't fret....please look for Jasmine in the evening sunset, or with the earliest spring daffodils, or amongst the flitting and fluttering butterflies. And please don't cry because she is gone; instead be happy that she was here. Today and for all days to come, she is happy and dancing.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Hellam Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police, White Rose Ambulance Service, and all the first responders that were at Jasmine's side during her final breath. The family also has the Eastern Varsity football team, coaches and bus driver in their prayers and thoughts as they work through the trauma they were unfortunate to witness, and recover and heal in the days ahead. To any individual involved at any level in this unforeseen tragedy, it would be Jasmine's wish that they accepted in their hearts the comfort of the Lord as their Savior.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
