Obituary for
Cecil Carl Gunnet
Cecil Carl Gunnet, 86, of York, died peacefully, Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born August 3, 1930 in York, he was the son of the late Mabel C. (Gunnet) Shearer.
Cecil was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. While in Korea, he took part in 5 combat campaigns, and his unit received the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism shown in combat.
Cecil retired from Standard Register in 1990, after serving as a pressman for the company for 35 years. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
Cecil is survived by his daughter Theresa Diane Beaverson, and her husband Dennis of York, his son Craig Steven Gunnet of York, his granddaughters: Jami Walker and her husband Mike; Lori Nietz, and her husband Joel, and Emily Farman. He is also survived by his close companion Marjorie Schardt and his beloved great-grandchildren: Olivia, T.J., Micah, Molly, Caroline, and Sadie. Cecil was preceded in death by his brothers John Gunnet and Edward “Ted” Blymire.
A funeral service for Cecil will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 7:00 pm at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York with Pastor Greg Wahlberg officiating. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment will follow on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 10:30 am at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
