Obituary for
James B. "Jim" Grove
James B. Grove, age 80, of Lower Windsor Township, died peacefully at home, Monday, May 15, 2017. Born October 1, 1936 in Felton, he was the son of the late Sterling and Mary E. (Tyson) Grove. Jim was the loving husband of Janie (Dietz) Grove for 45 years.
Jim was a graduate of Red Lion High School. He was a US Navy Veteran, serving on the escort destroyer USS Murray. Jim was a supervisor in the installation and repair department for GTE. He was a very active member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hallam, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and worked as the church “handyman”. He was a volunteer and board member at Kreutz Creek Cemetery in Hellam. Jim enjoyed woodworking and spending time hunting.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his daughters: Susan Eppley, and her husband Raymond, Jr., and Lisa Liantonio, his step-daughters: Cathy Smith and Pam Smith, and her partner Bruce Harrison, his step-sons: Phil Smith, and his wife April, and Kevin Smith, and his partner Gregory Sipe. He is also survived by six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his brothers: Perry and Maurice Grove, and his sister: Esther Deitz. He was preceded in death by his brother: Bernard Grove.
A funeral service for Jim will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 200 East Market Street, Hallam, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Kelly Shiflett officiating. Interment will follow in Kreutz Creek Cemetery, with Military Honors accorded by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing for Jim will be held at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
