Obituary for Collin McGlen "CJ" Smith Jr.

Collin McGlen "CJ" Smith Jr.
Collin “CJ” McGlen Smith Jr, 22, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 14, 2017 in York. Born August 31, 1994 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Lavern Chin of York and the late Collin McGlen Smith, Sr.

Besides his mother, CJ is survived by his 4 brothers, Dave Lydner and Dwayne Lydner of York and Duran and Dujoha Smith of Brooklyn, New York, and 4 sisters, Tyresha James and Angel Thomas of York and Cassendra Smith and Zori Smith of Brooklyn, New York. He is also survived by his nephews, Daveyon and Dave Lydner of York, who he shared a special relationship with. Destiny Ritter of York, Collin’s longtime girlfriend, will carry on his memory as well as his godmother, Angie Smith. CJ was loved and is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews as well.

CJ graduated from William Penn Senior High School and attended Mount Zion College Preparatory School in Baltimore, Maryland. He played basketball for both teams. In ninth and tenth grade, CJ attended New Hope Academy in York, which is a school that he loved to attend.

Basketball and family were CJ’s two great loves. He loved his family very deeply, especially his brothers and his nephew. On the basketball court is where CJ truly shined. He was a member of York High’s 1,000 Point Club and was a member of the 2011 team that brought home York High’s first District Title in 10 years. CJ loved the Lakers and Kobe Bryant and the University of Kentucky and Coach Cal. H was fortunate enough to meet Coach Cal in person at a basketball showcase in Florida.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Living Word Community Church, 2530 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion with Pastor Aaron Kunce officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to help offset funeral costs to Lavern Chin, 485 Garden Court, Red Lion, Pennsylvania 17356.

Arrangements by the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York, PA 17403.
