Obituary for
Donald E. Glatfelter
Donald E. Glatfelter, 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 7, 2017 in York at home. Born July 17, 1930 in York, he was the son of the late Ervin and Vergie (Witmer) Glatfelter and the step son of the late Margaret Glatfelter.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Nancy (Sharp) Glatfelter, who is currently residing in the Memory Care Unit at Normandie Ridge. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Robert Becker and his daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Barry Decker. In addition, he had four grandchildren, Stacey Kuhn, Scott Becker, Cory Decker, and Nicholas Decker. He also had three adoring great-granddaughters, Hannah, Rachel, and Mackenzie.
Donald was a life-long North York resident. He attended North York High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in England. He worked for Cole Steel as a lift truck operator until the company closed. He then worked for Roto-Rooter until retirement. After retirement, he worked part-time at Ben’s RV Center.
As a young man, he was the assistant chief of the North York Liberty Fire Department for many years and a member of the Liberty Social Club, 13th Ward Club, and York Racing Club. He was a member of York First Assembly of God and enjoyed participating in the senior group. An avid racing fan, he enjoyed his many trips to the Indianapolis 500, his last trip being at the age of 85 to see the 100th running of the race. He loved camping, fishing, jumping waves at the beach, and most of all being with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market Street, York with Pastor Noel Martinez officiating. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with a Flag Folding presentation by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
