James E, "Jim" Schwartz
James E. “Jim” Schwartz, 58 of York, died at his residence on March 14, 2017, following a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Beth A. (Drawbaugh) Schwartz with whom he observed their 34th wedding anniversary on September 12, 2016.
Born April 2, 1958 in York, PA, he was the son of John E. Schwartz of York, PA and the late Mary E. (Ness) Schwartz.
Jim was a 1976 graduate of West York High School and received his Bachelor degree in teaching from York College. Jim was employed as a teacher for the Southeastern School District for 25 years. He will be remembered as a passionate teacher who had the ability to motivate students to learn.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in York. Jim was a former assistant wrestling coach for the Central York School District and was an active parent who coached his children’s sports teams. He was a Youth Advocate Volunteer for York County, an avid Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles Fan and loved going to the beach and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife and his father, Jim is survived by his daughter, Emma L. Schwartz of Pittsburgh, his son, Samuel J. Schwartz of York, a sister, Lana J. Smith of York, a brother Robert S. Schwartz of York, and nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, Jim was also preceded in death by a brother, John “Buss” Schwartz.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2017 at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 West Market Street, York, PA with the Rev. Kevin T. Shively officiating. A visitation will be held in the parlor of the church from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Monday.
