Obituary for
Donald C. Fry
Donald C. Fry, 89, of York, died peacefully at the York Hospital, Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Born in York on April 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Cleidth and Anna (Deardorff) Fry. Don was the loving husband of 68 years of Irene L. (Hoshall) Fry.
Don graduated from William Penn High School, then joined the US Navy, where he served on a 40mm gun crew on the U.S.S. Midway during WWII. He retired from Hershey Baking Company where he was a delivery driver. After retirement he went onto become a salesman at Henry’s Tire, and later he worked in the mailroom at the York Hospital.
Don was a very active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was a Sunday school teacher, taught adult Bible class, was a member of the choir, and was a church officer.
Don enjoyed completing adult coloring books, reading, and watching comedy shows. He was a loving family man, and he cherished the time he could spend with them, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his children: Nancy B. Frey and her husband Stephen of Allentown; Todd G. Fry and his wife Pamela of Seven Valleys; Merilinda L. Knisely of York, his seven grandchildren, and his 5 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Don will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 am from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2121 Roosevelt Avenue, York, PA 17408, with Reverend Leonard “Skip” Nizinski officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Wolf’s Church Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
