Obituary for
Richard L. "Rick" Altland Sr.
Richard L. “Rick” Altland, Sr., 83, of York, died on August 1, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of Jean (Hensley) Altland to whom he was married for 65 years. Born in Lancaster on December 29, 1932 he was the son of the late Charl and Harriett (Bard) Altland.
He was the proprietor of Rick's of Wrightsville furniture and appliance store, owned and operated several market stands in farmer's markets in York and Lancaster counties, He was an insurance agent with American General Insurance as well as owning and operating The Stockade Tavern in York.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Kreutz Creek Valley VFW Post 7045, the Abel-Poff-Leithiser American Legion Post 469 and the Wrightsville Social Club. Rick also enjoyed horseracing, even owning a racing stable.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Richard L. “Rick” Altland, Jr. and his wife Patricia “Pat” Bish of Etters, a daughter Karen Caruso and her husband Rick of Wrightsville, a grandson Matthew Caruso and his wife Laura, two sisters Betty Carper of Winchester, VA and Helen Uhlig and Don of York Springs, a brother Glen Altland and Florence of Red Lion and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 13, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 700 Hellam Street, Wrightsville. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the funeral home.
