Obituary for Isabel D. Goodling

Isabel D. Goodling
Isabel D. Goodling of Loganville passed away at her childhood home, Monday morning July 25; three weeks shy of her 98th birthday. Isabel was born in her paternal grandparent’s home in Loganville on August 20, 1918 and was the first born child of the Hon. George A. Goodling (1896-1982) and Annetta J. Glatfelter (1897-1954).

Isabel was a proud alumnus of the two-room grammar school in Loganville and the York Collegiate Institute (YCI). Her first foray into the work force was in the family orchards and fruit farm. Isabel worked 7-years as a seamstress at the Loganville Sewing Factory before spending the next 38-years at York Dentsply. After retiring from Dentsply, Isabel worked for 14-years in the bakery department of Brown’s Country Market. Her specialty was apple dumplings, making a personal best 100 dumplings in a single day.

Isabel was a passionate gardener, cook and crochetier as well as a champion bowler.

As the eldest of six children, Isabel served as a second mother to her 2 sisters and 3 brothers. She was predeceased by her beloved sister and brother: Patti L. (Goodling) Levis of York and Robert M. Goodling of Loganville. Isabel is survived by 2 brothers and 1 sister: Richard A. Goodling of Waynesboro, VA, William F. Goodling of Seven Valleys and Nancy J. (Goodling) Hershner of York. She is also survived by 12 adoring nieces and nephews, 17 great nieces and nephews, and 7 great-great nieces and nephews.

Services remembering Isabel’s life will be held in her family church - Emanuel United Methodist Church, 40 South Main Street Loganville, PA - Friday July 29 at 10:30 am. A reception will immediately follow the service in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Burial will be family-only in the church’s cemetary.

To honor Isabel’s life, please consider contributions to the Goodling Community Park in lieu of flowers. Contributions should be made payable to the “Borough of Loganville, PA”, designated as “for the George A. Goodling Community Park in memory of Isabel D. Goodling”, and mailed to the Borough of Loganville, PO Box 88, Loganville, PA 17342.

Arrangements by the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York, PA 17403.
